The HUNTING

In Santa Fe you have the opportunity to hunt several different species, with the main attraction being Rosy Billed Pochards and Whistling Ducks being the biggest part of your bag. There are also several varieties of Teal.

Santa Fe duck hunting has comfortable well camouflaged blinds; experienced guides are on hand at all times, and are there to make sure you have the duck hunt of a lifetime.

Duck hunting on the San Javier River, or over some of the hundreds of islands even over rice fields. We shoot twice a day, morning and evening, with plenty of time to relax mid day!

Morning Duck Hunts start after breakfast before sun-up you'll leave to get to the blind at first light. Time of year and the scouting report from the previous day determines the time to the field. By either truck or boat depending on the area, it is normally 20 minutes to one hour to the blind.  Duck shooting starts at first light and continues until around 10:00 AM  A skillful shooter can have his limit of 30 ducks in the first 30 to 45 minutes. Groups of decoying birds average around 20 - 30. Most days, duck hunters return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta before afternoon departure at about 3pm for evening duck hunts. Evening hunts last until dark.

Perdiz over dogs is also available, as is fantastic Dorado fishing in the rivers. There are doves close by that can be shot in good numbers. Although they are an after-thought as this is a DUCK HUNTERS LODGE!
