The LOCATION

Located in the Northern most tip of Argentina; The province of Salta has a well-deserved reputation as being one of the premier Wingshooting destinations in the world. The ecology of the region is tropical forests and hills with expansive grain fields in the lower elevations. Bolivia and the Andes are not far away; the topography reflects their proximity.

The lodge is located in the forested Centinela Mountains, in Salta's 600,000+ acre Anta Valley. The Anta Valley is one of Argentina’s most productive agricultural areas, there are several different crops planted. Peanuts, soybeans, wheat, corn, sunflowers, and Milo are all available to the birds at different times and locations. As in other parts of Argentina the doves are Eared doves and the bane to the farmers of the Gran Chaco (a forested area that covers northern AR, Bolivia and Paraguay). Plague proportions can drop a farmers yield in half in just a half a day.

The lodge is located near a local town called Las Lajitas, and is a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from the Salta City Airport. The flight from Buenos Aires to Salta is about 2 hours—comfortable, jet service, on time. Several airlines fly to Buenos Aires from the U.S. with nonstop service offered from DFW, Miami, New York and Houston. Getting to Buenos Aires from the U.S. is no problem. When you arrive in Buenos Aires you can either choose to stay in a hotel for the night and enjoy Buenos Aires, a very cosmopolitan city or transfer to the domestic airport for the flight to Salta.

“I have fished all over the world and I find this an incredible experience. The fishing, the guides, the service and the experience, out of this world. Guides, staff, food and the wine were excellent. What a great fighting, acrobatic fish! I will come back”

Joe M. – Colorado, May 2012

The SHOOTING

Salta Dove and Pigeon Shooting is high volume, where Salta excels is in the tropical surroundings; wildlife and topography are different than most of Argentina. Salta, can stand toe to toe with any destination, and when you consider there are now direct flights from Buenos Aires it becomes an even more tempting option. Salta has one of the largest roosts found in the Andes Mountain Range, MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS, DOVES in EPIC proportions!

Salta dove shooting is variable as to where and how you shoot, the variety adds the experience. One day you may be shooting one of the HUGE roosts, in the heart of the beast. While the next my find you at a waterhole down in the river bottoms, or an afternoon surrounding one of the many agricultural fields.

Your normal shooting day starts around 7:00AM, breakfast will be waiting, departure to the field happens around 7:30 AM, you'll be in the field and shooting by 8:30AM. Your bird boy will be next you to you all the while attentive to your needs, more shells? They load the gun, need a drink? It's already waiting for you. The Bird boys will also have been up early preparing blinds, hauling coolers and preparing your day to be flawless. All you have to do is pick up the gun. At mid-day the shooting will stop and Salta dove hunters are treated to a FINE Argenitine asado (BBQ) with fine wines, cheeses, meats and all the wonderful cultural foods you would expect.

  • 100 million birds in the area
  • The largest natural roost in the Andes
  • Under 30 minute drives to the fields

The dry season is from March to November and is excellent shooting. Truly high volume!

Lodging is, as always, approved by DCA staff. With massages available, a pool, bar, the whole expierence is on par with the best Cordoba has to offer...the only real draw back to Salta is they shut down for the rainy season.

There are more than just doves to shoot there are also pigeons! Not to mention what might be one of the best cast and blast options ever.... Doves, Pigeons and Golden Dorado!

Best times suggested by DCA: June to September
